Depending on your screen settings and the quality of the surface, not all colors can be printed one hundret percent realistically. Daumier was one of the greatest caricaturists of the nineteenth century. He created thousands of keenly observed images of the social types he encountered in Paris. This painting shows three peasant women walking down a path. Two of them are twisting their bodies, and one is gesturing to something behind her. This painting is actually a study for a more complex work called 'The Miller, His Son, and the Ass,' based on a fable in which a traveling father and son are continuously harassed by passers-by, all of whom have a different opinion as to how the donkey should be treated. Here, however, you don't see the main subject. Daumier instead focuses on the passersby, conveying the rudeness of their behavior through clumsy, contorted body language.
